U.S. Department of Labor awards maximum funding to Workforce Investment Board to prevent youth ex-offenders entering adult corrections system.
(August 30, 2012)
The U.S. Department of Labor has announced it is awarding the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board $1.5 million—its maximum grant available—to prevent youth ex-offenders entering the adult corrections system. The federal grant is through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Serving Young Adult Ex-Offenders through Training & Service-Learning program.
The federally funded initiative will target services to young adults aged 18-21 who have been involved with the juvenile justice system, but have not been convicted of any state or federal crime as an adult. The goal of the program is to help 100 at-risk young adults gain the skills needed to create a more positive future for themselves and avoid entry into the adult corrections system.
Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board will lead a coalition of public-sector, community-based, and faith-oriented organizations dedicated to providing vocational training, educational advancement, service-learning experiences, alcohol and other drug abuse counseling, case management, employment preparation, and job placement for participating young adults.
Jericho Resources, Inc. is pleased to have prepared Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board’s grant application. To do so, the firm led proposal strategy sessions; prepared community service provider surveys; conducted best practice research; analyzed demographic data; negotiated and drafted partnership letters of commitment and memoranda of agreement; drafted the narrative; and designed corresponding graphics.
Prior to selecting Jericho Resources, Inc. to prepare this federal grant application, the organization had never outsourced grant writing. Jericho Resources, Inc. President William Martin said, “I am honored that the leadership of the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, the largest such organization in the State of Wisconsin, entrusted Jericho Resources, Inc. with this opportunity. It is joy to be a part of helping this organization and its partners change lives and brighten futures.”
